Support the Classic City Marathon.

The second annual lululemon Classic City Marathon will be held on January 25th, 2025, in beautiful Athens, GA. Our races are crafted by the Athens Road Runners community, a 501c3 non-profit of 400+ runners. The Athens Road Runners mission is to inspire and engage individuals to achieve health, fitness, and training goals through the sport of running. Our tagline, “crafted by runners”, reflects the incredible wealth of experience and care with which we are using to build our race weekend. The Athens Road Runners has assembled the Classic City Marathon Association, a group of 30+ year-round volunteers who are actively working toward putting together an excellent race that builds community and benefits all who participate (e.g. runners, supporters, city workers, musicians, volunteers, police, and sponsors). Our Association is committed to supporting every participant- all the way to the finish line!

Our race weekend will begin with a Saturday expo celebration at Creature Comforts Brewery in downtown Athens. On Sunday, The Classic City Marathon, The Athena Half Marathon, and the 4 person Classic City Relay will start and finish in downtown Athens and take runners through historic landmarks and neighborhoods, parts of the University of Georgia campus (one of the oldest public universities in the U.S.), beautiful greenways, over the newly constructed Firefly Bridge, and finally down our sorority and fraternity row where energetic college students and spectators will be celebrating runners as they enter the final miles of the course. Our finish line celebration will take place in the downtown Classic Center. Athens, GA is a college town with a vibrant music and art scene. We are also the home of the Georgia Bulldogs and have an exceptional community that loves supporting sporting events.

The weather in Athens is fantastic for running in January, and it is not too bad for spectating either, and since this time of year there is a lull in running events in the U.S., we think we have the potential to capture the hearts and “soles” of many. Due to our highly successful college football team, Athens has the infrastructure to handle large volumes of people. We are estimating ~3000 runners with growth anticipated each year. Since 2013, we have been building a running community in Athens and surrounding areas. We are confident that runners in the area and from across the United States will want to run the Classic City.
